Social Interest Solutions Builds Upon Commitment to Data-Driven Insights and People-Centered Solutions with Two New Executive Hires

Chief Data Officer Steve Spiker and Chief of Technology and Design John Gonzalez join California-based non-profit social enterprise
Sacramento, CA, June 17, 2019 – Social Interest Solutions (SIS), a non-profit social enterprise dedicated to connecting people to help through policy and technology solutions, announced two new senior hires to its Strategy and Innovation (S&I) team: Steve Spiker, Executive Director, Chief Data Officer and John Gonzalez, Executive Director, Chief of Technology and Design.
As a non-profit social enterprise, SIS is focused on creating elegant and impactful solutions to the complex problems of providing help to those who seek it. The expertise of these two new leaders in data insights and technology design will add depth and strength to SIS’s team. It will also contribute to SIS’s longstanding commitment to sharing its research and best practices with others in the field through its open innovation model.

Spiker, former Data Evangelist at Measures for Justice, a non-profit bringing transparency to the criminal justice system through data, is a recognized leader in civic innovation and a 2013 White House Champion of Change. Prior to Measures for Justice, Spiker was the Director of Research and Technology at the Urban Strategies Council. Spiker also co-founded OpenOakland, a civic innovation organization focused on open government and civic engagement through the development of several civic apps. Spiker has research experience in community development, housing, criminology, spatial epidemiology, and reentry issues. He is an advocate for open data and open government and engages in speaking opportunities about data-driven decision making around the country.
John Gonzalez joins SIS from Internet Archive, which is building a digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form, and home of the Wayback Machine. There he led the technology and operations teams as the Director of Engineering and was responsible for efforts to make the 6-million books and texts of the Internet Archive’s collections more available and accessible to people with disabilities. John has more than 30 years of experience in business and technology management, holding positions at Xerox, Clearstory Systems (WebWare), and Getty Images. At Xerox, he was Director of Content Management Products and managed a $22 million product line of document management products. Throughout his career, John has been dedicated to improving opportunities for youth in underserved populations, and currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for PBLWorks. As Chief of Technology and Design, Gonzalez will help strengthen SIS’s social impact through the design and implementation of new, people-centered digital technology.
